Rigging Challenge Boston

A Tasty Rigging Tail

Rigging is never dull and sometimes downright delicious! When Sea Salt Lobster in Saco ME purchased two 36' x 8' commercial lobster tanks from North Atlantic Lobster in Danvers, MA, there was no way to get the 1,500# tanks out of the building. The access was blocked by other tanks filled with thousands of gallons of water and lobster bound for local homes and restaurants for the holidays. Seeing no way to surmount the obstacles, another rigging company had just walked away from the job.

Loving a challenge, diggins & ROSE riggers developed an innovative plan of spanning the full tanks with a steel I-beam. The empty tanks were lifted into the air using forklifts, and gently transferred onto the steel beam using wooden rollers. The tanks were rolled out the door onto flatbeds which were used as portable loading docks to transfer the empty tanks onto waiting trucks bound for Saco, ME.

Slide 1: Rigging is never dull and sometimes delicious! This 6 pound lobster was taken from a tank blocking access for this challenging rigging job that another rigger had declined due to its difficulty.

Slide 3: diggins & ROSE's innovative solution was to span the full tank blocking the doorway with a steel I-beam.  The I-Beam was the support onto which the empty tank was maneuvered using wood rollers.

Slide 4: The first empty tank is lifted from its position using a forklift, J-Bar and 4- wheel dollies. It is supported with wooden beams, moved across the building and lowered onto the I-beam spanning the full tank.

Slide 5: The tank is rolled across the I-Beam on wooden rollers and out the doorway onto a waiting flat bed trailer.
